Supplies

Sewing Your Perfect Size Pattern

With just a little sewing knowledge, some persistence and inspiration, the outcome is yours to create. So, get started now and make your own jacket.

Who knows, you might even decide to start making all your own clothes!

You'll need:

  • Your sewing pattern
  • Preferred fabric
  • Color matching thread
  • 9 metal snaps/ buttons
  • interlining for
  • Sewing machine

Seam Allowances

  • 1 cm seams

Fabric Suggestion:

medium weight woven fabrics such as denim, cotton twill, wool, corduroy etc

How much fabric do you need for your diy dress?

For each size, you can find out how much fabric you'll need by using the chart below. It assumes a fabric width between 140 and 150 centimeters. In the event that you're using a different width or design (such as stripes), make sure you adjust the pieces to fit.

Check your contraction!

Note! Before you cut the fabric, you should check its contraction. A maximum recommended temperature should be used to iron raw materials. In this way, you can guarantee a proper fit, and your clothing will not shrink after the first wash. You can protect yourself from shrinkage by purchasing 5% more than you need.

How To Sew It

Sewing A Shacket Pattern - Instructions

  • Apply interlining on the collar and collar stand, cuffs and pocket flaps
  • Sew the two collar pieces, good sides together. Cut the seam allowance narrow and cut the corners obliquely. The collar is turned and ironed. Topstitch at 0.5 cm along the outer part.
  • Take one of the collar stands and iron the hem at 1 cm on the inside. Place the collar between the pieces of the collar stand and sew all 3 together.
  • Sew the cuffs, carefully cut narrow the seam allowance, turn them over and iron
  • Overlock the top seam allowance of the pockets, bend inwards according to the notches and sew with a topstitch. Preform the pockets by bending and ironing the seam allowance inwards according to the patterns.
  • Sew the flap pieces, good sides together. Cut narrow the seam allowance, turn the flaps inside out, iron and sew a topstitch at 0.4 cm
  • Apply the pockets and flaps on the 2 fronts, according to the markings on the pattern
  • Bend and iron according to the markings on the pattern and make the button stands. On the right is the hidden double hidden double button stand. I attached below an explanatory photo on how to bend and sew.
  • Place the metal snaps in the places marked on the right chest on the button stand
  • sew at the top and bottom then sew the keys in the marked places by catching the button stand below
  • sew the shoulders, overlock and iron the seam by pressing the seam allowance backwards
  • The outer collar stand is sewn on the edge of the neckline, good sides together. Then sew a topstitch at 1mm to attach the inside collar stand.
  • sew the bias to the sleeve slit, sew the sleeve cuff and topstitch
  • sew the sleeves in the armhole, overlock and topstitch at 0.5 cm on the bodice part
  • sew the side seam starting from the end of the sleeve to the end of the dress, overlock and iron the seam
  • bend the seam allowance 1 cm inwards on one side on the hem band (piece 13) and iron
  • Iron the hem band in 2 lengthwise and sew the edges. Turn the hem over and iron.
  • sew the hem band on the bottom of the dress, matching the notches on the hem with the bottom of the dress. Iron the seam allowance towards the inside of the cord and sew a top stitch at 0.4 cm so that it also catches the lower part of the hem band, taking care that the bent seam allowance is caught in the seam also
  • Sew the 2 parts of the waist belt in the middle, bend lengthwise and sew . Turn the waist belt over, iron it and sew it at the free end
  • Put the metal snaps on the cuffs, on the collar stand and on the left side of the chest
